Israeli defense firm Elbit Systems has unveiled a multi-mission tactical radar designed for improved border security and protection against enemy drones.

Called the DAiR, the system incorporates sophisticated algorithms, multiple digital receivers, and computing cores with artificial intelligence.

It can simultaneously detect and track thousands of objects of varying sizes and velocities.

According to the company, the unique capabilities offered by the radar enable armed forces to use a single radar system to handle a large number of targets, including enemy troops, helicopters, drones, vessels, and artillery.

“Small drones are detected from up to 12km and humans from up to 15km,” Elbit explained in a press release.

“The DAiR radar system is compatible with the all-purpose structured euro-control surveillance information exchange protocols, enabling seamless sharing of information with C4I (Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Command and Control) systems.”

‘Aligning Radar Capability’

Elbit Systems stated that the DAiR system makes target prioritization redundant for improved effectiveness and efficiency of tactical units in an operational environment.

Company General Manager Oren Sabag explained that target prioritizing capability in radar systems has become a liability in today’s multi-domain warfare.

He further asserted that the military is often compelled to utilize multiple radars just to keep up with evolving threats, thereby increasing maintenance and operational costs.

“The DAiR radar system addresses these challenges, does not rely on target prioritization, thereby aligning the radar capability with the imperatives of multi-domain warfare,” Sabag stated.
